Geographic/Demographic

Somerset County is the hub of central New Jersey. Somerset County encompasses 305 square miles, consists of 21 municipalities, and is home to an estimated population of 331,164* people. Located in the heart of Somerset County, the Regional Center represents an area consisting of 12.6 square miles which includes all of Raritan Borough (2.02 square miles), Somerville Borough (2.4 square miles), and a portion of Bridgewater Township (8.18 square miles). The total area of Bridgewater Township is 32.68 square miles including the 8.18 square miles in the Regional Center.

The Regional Center has an estimated population of approximately 33,471 people*, including 7,875 people in Raritan; 12,202 people in Somerville; and an estimated 13,394 people in the Regional Center portion of Bridgewater; i.e., 30% of Bridgewater’s total population of 44,646 is 13,394. The 30% estimation for Bridgewater’s Regional Center population was used for Plan Endorsement.
